People go crazy at events

April 26th, 2008

I’ve been trying to figure out what an appropriate title would be for this blog post without offending anyone. I’ve thought about it and that’s what I came up with. So I happened to stumble upon the White House Press Correspondence Dinner on C-SPAN tonight and they were showing all the celebrities, famous faces, and government officials. What I couldn’t stand is that the Jonas Brothers come into the venue and all of a sudden, the crazy girls who are infatuated with them start screaming at the top of their lungs. WTF? First of all, do these idiot girls know that they’re in a crowd waiting to see people involved in a political industry? Why would you have little girls screaming at the top of their lungs there? These stupid girls don’t know that the Jonas Brothers aren’t there to win an award or present something at the Kids Choice Awards. Shut the hell up already!

I keep watching all these events on TV and when a famous face comes along, there are those that scream their bloody head off. Are you people insane? It’s alright to do it at a concert or at an awards show, but c’mon…at a TV event or somewhere that requires a bit more decorum? Geezus…all I’m saying is that you need to keep your stupid little people under control because while I’m watching TV, I don’t want to hear the sound comprised of excited screams.

I’m tired of all these debates

February 26th, 2008

I know that every state has their own rules on when they need to have their primaries, but do we need to have all these debates? Tonight was the 20th debate between Democratic candidates Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama. People have a right to hear from the candidates, but does it honestly have to be about the same thing every time? They’re all talking about healthcare (same response), the Iraq war (same response), the economy (same response), etc. It’s getting tiresome at some points. But alas, I must admit that even though I’ve grown tired of all this trivial bickering, these debates are like a bad car accident - you can’t do anything BUT watch….and that’s what I did tonight. The fact that there wasn’t anything good on TV didn’t help either.

Tonight’s debate wasn’t that informative. As I expected, the moderators, Brian Williams and Tim Russert pounced on the whole news about Clinton’s rage over the Obama mailings that accused her of not having universal health care and her stance on NAFTA. I didn’t watch the entire thing, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the candidates were questioned about Ralph Nader’s entry into the foray. I’m starting to think that these debates are turning into mini-series with people being able to pick up where things left off each time.

And as expected at the end of the debates, the moderators asked for “closing statements” and the candidates both gave a little song and dance and sang kumbaya all the way to the credits…you know…it’s the part where they say “It’s been an honor campaigning against so and so…” You can basically time each segment with an egg timer.

So I wait for the results on next Tuesday and hopefully with the victors of Texas and Ohio along with Vermont and Rhode Island, a new nominee will emerge and we won’t have to deal with these “petty” debates.

Watching the 80th Annual Academy Awards

February 24th, 2008

I must say that it’s been a while since I last sat through and watched an awards program like the Oscars, but for some weird reason, I felt drawn to watching it this year. It’s not as if I really care about the nominees this year because they’re no one that really stands out and I only saw a few of the films that are mentioned. But it’s probably because there wasn’t anything else good on TV.

I must say that Jon Stewart is doing a pretty good job as a host. He’s done this at least once before, right? Well the opening monologue and jokes weren’t that bad, but over the course of the program, it seems that they’re doing a lot of fill-ins to occupy some time, but then again they are doing some montages of the past 80 years to recap folks to the best stuff of the Oscars. The speeches though are pretty stale for the less-known categories and they’re naming a bunch of movies that are foreign and independent so what the hell do I know about ‘em?

No Country for Old Men seems to be doing pretty well for their awards and the Borne Ultimatum has been doing well also but only for the lesser known categories. And to my shock, no one has thanked God yet at the Academy Awards. What’s that about? The jokes are pretty funny and what’s classic is when Halle Barry and Dame Judi Dench were supposed to present, but in their place, the crazy stars from Superbad and Knocked Up appeared. Okay, you gotta see this for yourself.

Anyways, the show is decently put together. Maybe I need to go see these movies now?

Knight Rider: A pretty good movie. Now where’s the series?

February 17th, 2008

I must say that I was really hoping to watch the new Knight Rider series on TV tonight after American Gladiators, but unfortunately NBC decided to run with a movie that will hopefully set the backdrop for the series. It’s funny how networks say that they’re bringing a new show to TV only to reneg and have it become a made-for-TV movie. Now with all this hype over the steroid-infused version of this remake, will NBC move forward and make it a TV series? I think it has a good chance at survival.

So this remake of Knight Rider follows the efforts of this guy who eventually finds out that he’s a descendant of the great Michael Knight and gets to drive the really cool Shelby GT Mustang known as KITT. I’ve watched the old 80s version of Knight Rider and this guy sorta looks like David Hasselhoff (minus the big poofy hair that David had). Anyways, so bad guys are trying to steal some code to take over the world and tries to get access to it by kidnapping the engineer and his daughter. Enter KITT and the “fun” ensues.

What’s very entertaining about this movie is that NBC and Ford have put together little mini-movies that run as commercials where they ask questions about the movie and if you know it, answer and you’ll be entered to win your very own KITT. Of course it’s sponsored by Ford so they also plug On-Star, the Ford Focus, and the Synch technology. It’s a story within a story and very well done. I’m guessing it could even be viral at one point. I like it.

So back to the movie. Turned out that the new Michael’s mom knows the founder of the Knight Foundation and is aware of the two KITTs that ever existed. The ending of the action sequence near the end of the movie is pretty cool and the action sequence is bad ass. And wait, David Hasselhoff even makes an appearance!?!? Yeah, that’s right. The final joining between the old Michael Knight and the new Michael Knight happens here (along with the cool Knight Foundation truck - but it’s a PLANE this time, and the kickass theme song).

The new Knight Rider is pretty baddass and the special effects on the car is impressive. I’m a little thrown off by the camouflage aspect. Apparently the car can morph into different colors and that’s supposed to confuse the enemy? You still tell it’s a Ford Mustang, but if you’re that naive, you won’t notice it because of the different license plate and color. But the interaction between Mike and KITT is amusing. The plot line isn’t dry and the end is just setting more foundation. I felt that 80-90% of the movie is action and action-packed. So if you missed it, go check it on Hulu or something.

Fox News is too Republican partisan

February 16th, 2008

So I took my car for service this morning and while I was waiting for the job to be completed, I sat in their little waiting room and watched whatever the auto station had on their TV. As it turns out they had Fox News on, which normally isn’t too bad when you have real news to report on, but leave it to Fox to take things to a totally stupid level.

There’s a lot of jabs taken at the different news stations for their political views. CNN is supposedly Democratic leaning while Republicans favor Fox. MSNBC is probably hated by both parties and supported by all the other folks. But leave it to Fox to talk smack about Democratic candidates only and leave out the equal airtime clause for the Republicans. Today’s discussions were no different. For some strange unknown reason, Fox decides to air their “Costs of Freedom” segments - and why is it that when Fox has a word with an “s” in it, they replace the “s” with $? Doesn’t that get strange after a while?

So back to the TV segments…they start talking about Barack Obama. Of course they are. They’re like Mitt Romney and flip-flop between who’s the “front runner” right now. Right now it’s Obama, but come next week, it might be Clinton they’re talking about. But what about the Republicans? Would Fox dare talk smack about McCain? Heaven forbid they talk about the “maverick” Republican who’s basically following the footsteps of Bush - someone who Republicans talk smack about themselves, but aren’t allowed to separate from the pack without being shunned by their “peers” for violating the status quo, even though the leader of their party has pissed away any chance of America’s future by being a complete asshole with his idiotic policies.

Anyways, so like I was saying, I was watching Fox and turns out that they’re bashing Barack Obama. But what about? Was it about race? Nope…was it about his faith? Nope…what about electability? Nope. It was about his policy towards big business. Is Barack pro-business? I don’t think so. Honestly I don’t know. But what really tweaked me was the fact that they’re saying that if elected, President Barack Obama would be bad for capitalism. Now wait…you’re saying that if you vote for Barack Obama you’re with the terrorists, communists, socialists, and everyone who’s against capitalism? Who the heck thought up some ridiculous thoughts? Rupert Murdoch has his folks all screwed up. It’s even more hilarious with the Fox panel talking about how Barack wants to have all the programs mandated by the Federal government and that big business will do a better job. Well that may be the case, but you do know that the last time someone tried to mandate something was when President Bush screwed around with Social Security and privatized it…yeah, a lot of good that did. He didn’t even make it because his own party had some members rebel against the notion.

S o this who issue about Fox picking on Barack all the time is a waste of time. They’re a bunch of brainwashed idiots going after anyone who’s not with the Republican mentality. I suppose that’s why I enjoy watching NBC, CNN, MSNBC, or any other news channel. They seem to be less partisan with their news than Fox. Everything on Fox News is as partisan and bickering as the rest of the crap in Washington. Just expect more of this pointless drivel when the Republicans lose everything and they start pouncing on everything that happens, from what Barack is wearing his first day, to blaming the Democrats on how the inauguration went, to why the color of the White House is white. Stop your complaining.
