Vote No on Proposition 8. Maybe Samuel L. Jackson will convince you.

October 31st, 2008

With all the political banter going on, it’s amazing to see that people are trying to strip away people’s right and using discrimination as justification for human rights. There’s a ballot initiative here in California where the conservative religious right are using kids and religion as a crutch to “preserve their way of life”…it’s a bunch of crap, really. This latest video from the opponents of Proposition 8 is narrated by the great actor Samuel L. Jackson and is probably a good way to help persuade people not to vote for prop 8. Save marriage for everyone!

I voted today.

October 29th, 2008

I think I’m pretty proud of what happened today. Election day is coming up in a few days and I just realized that with the massive crowds expected during November 4, I didn’t want to be waiting around in line just to cast my vote…I mean, it’s not as if I currently have anything else better to do on Election Day, but I wanted to make sure that I had my voice heard without running into any glitches that may happen during the day. So I woke up early to head down to City Hall in San Francisco to cast my vote early. I’m thankful that I got this opportunity to vote too…that’s really the reason why I got my new license and registered. I didn’t want to vote in this election in an absentee capacity so I went ahead and changed my residency…and it’s a good thing too.

So I voted (in case I didn’t make it abundantly clear)…and chose who I wanted for my president & vice-president. Then I got to choose the next congressperson. I’m probably the most proudest of saying “No on Prop 8″ and allowing gay marriage to take place in California. We’ll see if my choices made a difference, but I’m satisfied that I got to vote…so now I can complain if things don’t go my way…at least I tried to make a difference, yeah?

Other than that, I think I’ve walked quite a bit today as well. Went through downtown and SOMA before heading back home and then decided to visit the beach. Of course I couldn’t have chosen a worse time as it was foggy as hell and somewhat cold. Surfers were out in the water so I took my camera to capture them surfing…didn’t turn out well either. It sucked, but at least I got to visit the beach. Had dinner with my cousin afterwards down on Irving and that was pretty much it. Can’t say that there’s anything much more that I did today, but it was a pretty interesting day. Now just to wait to see what other stuff I can cram in while I’m looking for work.

Checking out the SF Museum of Modern Art

October 25th, 2008

So on my continuous path to exploring the city and surrounding areas, I’ve decided to hit up the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. I figured it would be a pretty interesting exhibit but what surprised me is that they are putting together new exhibits so as a result, they cut admission in half until October 24 (which ended yesterday), but wound up closing the top floors of the museum. Bummer…so I was resigned to wandering through two floors of the museum. They had some pretty cool exhibits there: one on Vegas imagery and the other one was on photography (xray, radiation, movie, and still). Too bad that I couldn’t snap any photos from that particular part of the museum because they were really well done. I tried to look for this particular photo of a playing card being sliced in half by a bullet in the museum gallery, but unfortunately they didn’t have it. I would have liked to have that to frame and place on my wall.

Overall, the SF Museum of Modern Art is a pretty good deal. I’m not sure what else they’re going to be putting in there, but maybe I’ll have to go back and check it out.

Sarah Palin for VP? I’m calling shenanigans!

October 22nd, 2008

I honestly don’t think that Sarah Palin is qualified to be the next vice president of the United States. Why should she? I think that McCain is a good senator and is qualified, albeit old, but that’s not an issue for me. Palin is probably a great governor but when you elevate her from governor of one of the least populated states in the union to the second most powerful position in the country, she just doesn’t have knowledge of the federal bureaucracy or the constitution of the United States. Her interviews in the past few months have been horrible and just added more criticism onto her resume. I’m guessing the conservative base is happy, but just because your conservative about your views doesn’t make you a great leader. You need to know something about the country FIRST before you jump on board to run the country.

In recent news, Sarah Palin was asked by a third-grader about the role of the Vice President in the Senate. Her response?

They’re in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom…

I don’t think that’s right. Scratch that…I’m sure that it’s not right. The fact that Sarah Palin thinks she can ram the agenda of John McCain (or perhaps herself) down the throats of the legislature is perhaps one of the stupidest things I’ve heard.

And what’s her rationale for that answer? According to her spokesperson for Palin, the governor was simply speaking in a way that the third-grader would understand.

EXCUSE ME? Are you serious? You’re going to blatantly LIE to a third-grader and let them know that whatever their teacher taught them about US history is wrong and that this governor of podunk Alaska knows more is absolutely ridiculous. Palin needs to stop lying about her credentials. She’s struggling to pull answers out of her arse just to make it seem that she knows. Where are her handlers? Aren’t they supposed to educate her on these matters? Rather, where did Palin get her college degree from? Did she even GO to school? I think that it’s a bad move for her to even open her mouth anymore.

I can’t even write any more about what an atrocity Sarah Palin has become and even if I was going to vote for McCain, how could I knowing that if Palin were needed to run the country, she’d open the “Governing the United States for Dummies” book and read it. Please McCain…drop that woman and pick up another running mate that is probably equally conservative but not as dumb as Palin!

And yes, a third grader does understand…they understand that this lady who is supposedly “governor” of a state in the union just lied to his face. And what’s that telling them? That a governor from Texas who got a C average at Yale can become president and a lady without a sense of a clue can be governor of a state AND be chosen and have a chance for being selected the next vice-president of the United States. Message received…stupid people have a chance to succeed too.s

Week 10: Still somewhat unproductive

October 21st, 2008

I’m not sure whether this trip is a good one or not, but I’ve been making some slow movement in getting situated here in the Bay Area. Not sure what it is. I’ve been living in the city going to some of the sights and lugging around my camera and trying to enjoy the city. Now I’m living in my own place in the city (so that’s a new experience), and been going to some interviews all around the Bay Area from in the city to San Leandro and to San Ramon. I hopefully will hear back soon on some of them and maybe even start some interviews shortly, but not really sure.

One good milestone is that I got my car, although a little bit depressing now that I have most of my major possessions with me and no longer at my folks’ place. I also took my car in and got it registered with the city and narrowly passed my driver’s written test for my license. Now THAT was a scare…five wrong with a max of six. Phew! Talk about pressure. Although the whole process didn’t take that long…only a couple of hours and afterwards, I relaxed with some good ol’ In & Out Burger. Yumm…I guess it’s becoming a substitute for Chick Fil-A but we’ll see.

Got my place pretty decked out, albeit I’m missing some major pieces of furniture, but that can wait until I get a job. I never believed that it would be like that and I’d be forced to “wait it out” until I got job. I’m thinking that soon I’ll need to go to Best Buy, Office Depot or someplace retail’ish so I can get me a part-time job and move on and pay my bills. On the upside, I do have a part-time contractor gig with my old employer since they haven’t found someone to replace me yet. So now I technically have the best of both worlds, aside from the fact they aren’t paying my benefits and I’m without major funds.

But I’m managing right now and limited my funds so we’ll see how things go. I’m hoping to snatch something up before the end of this month so keep your fingers crossed.
