There are always ways for me to catch up on the latest news and events and stories going on back home on the islands with all my friends and family and local news. Although I’ve only lived there in residence for a little over five years, I’ve been connected to the islands all my life and spent my years there during my childhood and adolescence. But this latest news coming from Hawaii has really made my nostalgia spark…
Only my friend Ryan from my PBEC days would be daring and gung-ho to participate in this. He’s truly a journalist at heart and takes the social media maxim to its fullest extent. Way to go all in, Ryan…hopefully you didn’t hurt yourself too badly. Man, what I would have given to see this live though on KITV or perhaps at their studio. Next time let me know, Ryan!
It’s been a rough ride for me over the past couple of weeks. Just last week I felt like I was utterly stressed out with work and other stuff going on. I’m having tough times trying to prioritize all the stuff going on in my life and it’s interesting to see the juxtoposition of how my career was back when I was in Hawaii to now where I am. Before, I’ve had a bunch of free time to slack off and enjoy hanging out with friends, family, or by myself in front of the TV. But now, life gets me so worried sometimes that it’s affecting my time at the gym when I want to work out (and believe me, that’s ironic because isn’t the whole point in going to the gym to work out all your stress?
Albeit I’m not a psychologist and truly don’t believe that I’m bipolar, but I’ve been having good days and bad days. Just this week I’m feeling rather pleasant and nice. But last week I was stressed and bugging out about random crap. I think I need a vacation and thankfully one is coming up where I’ll be totally unplugged for a good long time. Last time that happened, I think I made some real progress…we’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we?
I’m looking back at my time at my job thus far and I’m shocked at where it’s gone so far. I’ve done some tremendous work and met some great people, but it appears that the honeymoon is now over. Ever since the launch of our new website, I’ve been indulged with a bunch of work. What’s aggravating me is that people just don’t understand how long anything takes to get done. From working on websites to simply developing invitations, these things take time. Just giving me a few days won’t make it better. Please make sure that you understand that the reason why resources ask for a specific amount of time is because there are other projects and it’s to allow them to have some time to rest. You know, the weekends aren’t for working too. I’m really tired of working 7 days a week. In fact, I’d appreciate not having all this stress because I’m really pissed that I’m worrying about work and it’s disrupting the ability for me to have a RELAXING weekend.
Yes…a weekend. You might know what it is, since you’re probably just relaxing and having a blast, but for me, I’m in front of the bloody computer working on your sh*t. So I’d appreciate if you were cognizant of that so you didn’t ask for stuff that’s not mission critical and gave me some goddamn breathing room. Is that too much to ask for? Believe me, when I say “no”, it’s not as if I’m not going to do your work. In fact, it means that I will do your work BUT I’m not able to give you that quick turnaround.
Actually, I would also appreciate it if you didn’t get all high and mighty with me and give me that “you need to work with me on this” approach because frankly, that’s bullshit. I AM working with you, but you know…there are other projects that I am working on - I’m not waiting around wondering what bullshit you’re going to come up with just so I can spend every waking hour making sure that it’s alright. I’m being very systematic about this when it comes to projects, but honestly…it’s getting tiresome.
