Who needs Ralph Nader to ruin the race for the Democrats?

Date May 7, 2008

With the Republican nomination all wrapped up for John McCain about 2-3 weeks ago, the only thing left on our election calendar is to figure out just who in the hell the Democrats are going to select to beat McCain. But lo’ and behold, it probably won’t even matter. Why? Well because with all the squabbling that’s going on between Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama, this thing has basically torn asunder the Democratic party - the same party that 4-8 years ago came together after losing the 2000 election to George W. Bush and were solidified in their goals mid-way through the primary season only to lose grip of what they’re fighting for as one by one, each candidate stepped down.

I think the primaries are a good thing, especially since they’ll help vet each candidate for possible attacks in the public and allow the respective party to execute a PR blitz that’ll protect the eventual nominee. But with the Democrats pretty much slinging everything now that the dirt has gone, it may be too late. The Democrats seemed to have a great chance early on. Now, with two popular candidates running for the same party nomination, it’s creating a rift that has some party voters switching sides and voting for McCain. Who needs Ralph Nader? The Democrats will ruin it for themselves!

I’m an Independent as listed on my voter registration card, but I lean towards Democrats (or basically I’m Joe Lieberman) and I’m rooting for Barack Obama. I loved Clinton when he was in the White House and think that Hilary will do a bang up job if she becomes President, but the battle has gone on too long that I’m just fed up. I’m going to be sad when one of these two popular figures will step down and screw the Democrats of a chance to claim back the biggest prize in political theatre. Moreover, the Democrats will probably have to work TWICE as hard now that Michigan and Florida basically will go Republican in the general election after being stiffed by the Democrats - that’s a PR nightmare for the political party already!

Just how do you convince 4 million registered Democratic voters (and then the other several million Republican and non-Democrat voters) to vote for their party after being stiffed and even (*groan*) disenfranchised? The argument “You brought this on yourself” just won’t fly anymore. These regular commonfolk voters don’t want to hear that because it’s a strike in their face. The only people that it’ll hurt ar the party leaders at the DNC and also the state party leaders. So this November, the Democrats better start woo’ing the southern states because if they needed at least one to win previously, with Michigan and Florida going red, you might as well hope you snatch up the other southern states.

Please stop all the squabbling and get back to the issues…that’s what people want to hear. You’re in a close race so do you need to pounce on each other? Focus your attacks on the Republicans and get back to what’s important to the people. It’s just gotten to a point where it’s too ugly to watch and I’m turning a blind’s eye to politics and will vote later on.
