Review: Shoot ‘em up is graphic but stupid

March 17th, 2008

A co-worker of mine happened to have the DVD of Shoot ‘Em Up featuring Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti and let me borrow it tonight. I think after seeing it, I would never want to watch it again. It’s quite graphic and if you’ve seen 300 or Sin City, then you’ll see some similarities, but other than that, it’s a pretty pointless plot.

Basically the plot goes like this: Paul Giamatti’s character is a hitman contracted to kill this lady and her newborn baby. Clive Owen’s character, Mr. Smith, intervenes accidentally and results in Giamatti’s character to pursue him to no end and accomplish the mission. The overall plot is that a Democratic senator who needs bone marrow has set out to “harvest” this stuff from newborn babies in a facility once guarded by the Secret Service and in the end turns on his convictions and joins up with the bad guys only to be killed. Stupid, yeah? Well it gets worse…the main bad guy is the owner of a gun manufacturer. So basically it’s like Clinton needing a life-saving transplant, but in order to do that, he’ll need to make a deal with the NRA devil and have to kill the hero.

Uh…that’s pretty stupid. Who thought of this? This is pretty bad…the action is pretty intense, but c’mon…this plot SUCKED!
