Pre-gaming for the Big Game

February 3rd, 2008

Yes, you’re not allowed to say the name of the event going on in about an hour because the big bad wolf of the NFL will hunt you down with a copyright infringement and trademark violation order and sue you for all you’re worth. So it’s the “Big Game”.

Anyways, popped on the TV and saw Alicia Keyes singing songs. I must say that it’s quite amusing to watch singers perform during the Big Game. The first couple of songs that Alicia sang you could tell were straight from her lips, but the last song that she sang…the hit song “No One” definitely seemed that it was lip-synched. Basically she pulled a Milli Vanili. She said something prior to singing the song and her voice was raspy, but then she starts singing No One and it’s clear and practically flawless…almost like it was taken from a studio recording and playing over the speakers. Wait…it was!

And what’s up with FOX putting on the “biggest tailgate party in the world”. Every game that has a tailgate says the same thing, dammit. so you have Ryan Seacrest hosting this portion of the pre-game and you have Hugh Laurie, Lawrence Fishburne, and Willie Nelson with Sara Evans performing? Oh come on! That’s absolutely ridiculous. And you close off the broadcast with John Travolta who is rooting for the New York Giants but he’s from Boston? Wow…he can’t really pick a reason…I can’t remember what else he said, but it just didn’t seem too believeable.

Counting down the clock to less than 30 minutes…it’ll be a good game. Eager to see the first commercial of the game. Will it be Budweiser, Coca-Cola, Ford, or a new company. Place your bets.

My feet hurt

February 3rd, 2008

So I think I need to get a pedometer or something because I went on a self-guide photo safari today in DC and basically did A LOT of walking. I started out at U Street since I caught the Metro in. On the way, a bunch of Latinos sat behind me on the train and the guy right behind me started kicking my chair. What? Are we in Third Grade again? You bastard…

So after enduring the long track work being done on the Metro line, I decided to explore U Street, but it didn’t turn out the way I intended. Didn’t really find anything interesting in the neighborhood so I walked down U Street to 16th Street before coming across the Freemasonry Temple on 16th Street. Interesting tour and lasted about an hour…probably an hour longer than I wanted. Our tour guide, Don, apparently has some issues since everytime he talked, he kept clicking a damn pen. What the hell? He’s an intern and didn’t really know that much about the history of the temple, but he did show us around which isn’t too bad.

Kept walking afterwards down 16th to Massachusetts Ave. and thought I was in Adams Morgan, but apparently bypassed it and found myself past Dupont Circle and finally in Georgetown. What’s that about? Wow…I walked a little longer than I thought and quicker. By the end of the day, I had walked through Georgetown, along the riverfront at Wisconsin Ave.  and past the Kennedy Center and Foggy Bottom before winding at K Street and 15th to grab a quick bite to eat.

Stopped by Madame Tussauds to check it out. Totally didn’t expect ticket prices to be $25…I could have sworn that it was a lot cheaper than that. The sales guy asked me if I had any student ID and thankfully I did so got a little discount. Wow, Madame Tussauds is pretty small, but there are some pretty good wax figures there. Is it worth the $25 admission? Umm…that’s kinda a steep price. If you could lower the price, then perhaps I’d consider going back, but that’s still rather pricey.

Next visit? Why back to the National Portrait Gallery, of course. With my nice camera in tow, stopped by to scout out the new exhibits and pictures there. They’re apparently doing a hip-hop exhibition there so they were doing some renovations. Stopped by once again at the bathroom where Stephen Colbert’s portrait is held.  Nice gallery and it’s free so what the hell, right?

I’m sure there were a couple of other places where I could have gone tonight, but next time when the weather’s a lot better I’ll try another photo safari. Saw lots of people exercising, biking, running, walking, having fun. Good stuff…so I’ll hopefully post these photos, but don’t hold your breath. Haha…

Washington DC Photo Safari Saturday

February 2nd, 2008

So I decided to go into DC today (Saturday) to just hang out. Apparently the weather is supposed to be good and not too cold. What could possess me to go out and see the “sights” of the city? I honestly don’t know…since I’m probably going to be walking around most of the time. The sad thing is that I don’t have any brochures or anything handy on me for what I’d want to do. So far the game plan is to hit up U Street and check out the different sites along there. Apparently they have a Saturday market there that should be interesting. I’ve already been to Eastern Market over in Capitol Hill so I’m guessing that it’s going to be similar. From there, I’ll probably hike over to Adams Morgan and go towards Georgetown.

Seriously though, I have no idea of where I need to go. I’m sure there are a couple of new sites around town that I haven’t seen so I suppose I’ll explore and pray I stumble across something good. You’re welcome to tag along if you’d like.

The Apprentice keeps on rolling

February 1st, 2008

Celebrity Apprentice

I remember watching the first season of The Apprentice nearly 3-4 years ago and it was definitely something to see, especially if you’re in a advertising agency. Then it started to plateau and ultimately I heard they had canceled the show due to lack of ratings or something like that. And now they’re showing it back on NBC on Thursday nights around 9pm EST. But it’s not new folks, but rather celebrities fighting for their favorite charities. They got folks like Richard Simmons (KISS), Stephen Baldwin, Lennox Lewis, Omarosa, Marilu Henner, and Vinny Pastore. There are others, but none that I’m quite familiar with.

So tonight’s episode focused on Vinny and the two teams fighting against one another to build a marketing campaign for Crocs. The women’s team hadn’t won a single challenge in four weeks and so through some deceptive espionage or something like that, the men’s team sent Vinny Pastore over there and he was supposed to “spy” on the women’s team, but turnabout was somewhat fair play and Vinny wound up being screwed by both teams which ultimately forced his hand.

What was he to do? He claimed that he came up with some of the good ideas that the women used, but unfortunately they rebuffed it, leaving him a little disgruntled and now the men’s team didn’t really trust him. I think I liked his line best…”I’m a man without a country” and that’s exactly what it was. Fed up with no one wanting him and being played and hung out to dry, he reluctantly resigned from the Apprentice. I think it’s a shocking turn of events. In the past few seasons, there probably have been at least one or two more instances of this happening, but wow…the previews for next week’s show might make it more appealing to see what happens.
