Would you resort to dirty politics?

Date February 23, 2008

I’m pretty ashamed of Barack Obama right now. I think he’s a really great candidate and can do much for the party and has a really good chance of becoming President this year, but apparently he’s releasing some bad information to voters in Ohio and Texas about how Hilary Clinton did this and that and that’s got Clinton all riled up and scathing mad.

The source of this controversy is this mailing that Clinton believes falls straight out of the book of Karl “Rove-isms”. I think that you should definitely list out what separates you from each other in order to give voters all the information they want, but can’t we be a little bit more civil about it? If Obama knowingly let this mailing be sent out with this “fraudulent” information, then that’s a pretty bad thing for him.

I think what appeals voters to Obama is his whole shtick about change and that he’s not a Washington insider as much as everyone else. Everyone was drawn to him after his 2004 convention speech and I’ll admit, after reading his book Dreams of my Father, I wanted to learn more about the guy. But these low-brow tactics don’t suit Obama. I never would have thought about him going into dirty politics to make his point. He’s been doing so well in the polls and it’s a “statistical dead heat” in Ohio and Texas so now the only way his momentum will be dulled is by him blowing it by some way - and this just seemed to be a damning thing on his part. Clinton can make headway now thanks to this “blunder”.

Let the Republicans sling dirt. If this is the only way for Democrats to make their way to the nomination and “vet” each other, than that’s absolute crap. What ever happened to candidates being “agents of change”? Does that mean that McCain and Obama are essentially the same? Let the Democratic party sling dirt at the Republicans during the general election.

I dunno…this whole political season has got me doubting how government should work. This whole theme of “change” has become overplayed. All it is now is talk…no real action will be taken in January 2009…it’s just all talk.
