CNN: This could put Edwards back on the map

January 21st, 2008

Wow…this is an interesting point. CNN Senior Political Analyst Bill Schneider says that this debate could help John Edwards in his campaign and hopefully finally let him win a Democratic primary. I think that with all this bickering that’s going on in tonight’s debate, Edwards may come out on top. He’s saying more policy and politics than bickering.

John Edwards is standing strong in the debate

January 21st, 2008

It’s funny watching the debate and seeing the two “top” contenders for the Democratic nomination go at it. But yes, don’t forget that John Edwards is still there. Wait, really? Are you sure? You thought that it was only the Clinton-Obama show? No way! Kucinich may be far out of the way, but Edwards still has some resemblance of a fighting chance.

After the New Hampshire debate (I think), it was surprising for some of the pundits that he took sides with Obama and took a swing against Clinton. Did that help him? He’s going after Clinton again in this campaign, but also Barack Obama. Wow…he’s actually grown a spine and went against Obama after Obama threw down the gauntlet about Clinton criticizing his votes. He went after Clinton and then retreated only to be caught in a deadly crossfire by Edwards who bashed him about how Obama was hypocritical for bashing the candidates about votes, but having a fit with them ripping into how Obama voted.

And now the questions are coming in and they’re now a little more cordial. It got pretty heated.

The kids gloves are off at the CNN debates

January 21st, 2008

Live from South Carolina, the CNN debates are on TV. Sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus, the debates have got a little bit heated just within the first 30 minutes. With all the back and forth jib-jabbing between Hillary/Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, the kids gloves came off and the arguing began with Clinton going at Obama over his Reagan speech and Obama retaliating with his comments about how things have been misconstrued and striking back at how things really are.

But wait, there’s another major candidate in this primary. Where’s John Edwards? Why he’s right there next to Obama! Now he’s unloading and coming to Obama’s rescue (again) and makes some good points about how the bickering in the Democratic party aren’t solving the REAL issues plaguing South Carolinian’s lives…like putting folks through college, healthcare, social security, etc.

Stephen Colbert is at the National Portrait Gallery

January 19th, 2008

Stephen Colbert at the National Portrait Gallery

Okay, so not the real Stephen Colbert, but rather his portrait hangs in the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery. CNN broke the story earlier this week about how Stephen Colbert approached the Smithsonian and asked to have his portrait posted up there next to the hall of Presidents. Of course you might know that he tried his unsuccessful attempt at running for President but was denied in South Carolina. So I decided to head over to the Portrait Gallery on Friday during lunchtime and to my surprise it was quite interesting. There were a few people there taking pictures with the portrait. I think there was even a camera crew - not with any major television network, mind you, but probably filming for something nonetheless. Interesting if it would be for Comedy Central, but there were too few people that seemed to belong to the crew and they didn’t seem too entertaining.

So this portrait is only temporary and will be there for about a six-week run, or rather five weeks now. So I toured through the rest of the gallery as much as I could for the next 30 or so minutes and it’s quite an interesting journey. Took some photos so hope to have them up soon on a more public gallery than what I have now - right now it’s on my Facebook page. If you wanna see his portrait, go check it out. It’s right near the place where they have all those Presidential portraits, but it’s hidden away. Where, you ask? Go to the bathroom and it’s right above the water fountain. Why is it there? It’s part of the joke! What joke? Go check out the video of the episode where this all started.

Journey to the Kennedy Center

January 13th, 2008

So I was asked if I wanted to go see My Fair Lady over at the Kennedy Center today since there was an extra ticket and I said yes. The show was pretty good, but not a favorite of mine so I’m glad that I didn’t have to pay for it, but probably worth it for me to go for free. But during my time in the city, there are a few observations that I made that’s really surprising…

On the way into the city, it’s funny that people on the Metro who wear headphones and listen to music on their mp3 players are fond of blaring the music SO loud that everyone can hear it. If people half a railcar away can hear it, don’t you think it’s going to be SUPER loud in their heads? What’s more is that this guy was dancing to the music and “drumming along” the whole way. I guess it’s a stereotype of this person’s character, but I won’t say that. It’s just weird.

When we got to the Kennedy Center, we wound up being all the way at the top in the somewhat nose-bleed section. Good positioning except for this pudgy girl that sat behind me and wouldn’t stop moving and kept kicking my chair. What’s going on here? You can’t sit still for the 2-3 hour show? There are people “bigger” than her that don’t have this problem. Just sit still!

We finish the show and go back to the Metro station at GWU and on the shuttle I observe that the only people that are standing are ladies, myself, and a young girl. Now why don’t the gentlemen in the bus stand up and give their seats away? Where’s the compassion? But there’s more! Please remember that the escalators are wide enough for two lanes. The left side of the escalator is meant for those passing. If you get on the escalator and don’t move, stay to the right. Do not stay to the left. You are impeding people from getting where they want to go, and most likely that might be to catch a train because they’re running on a tight schedule. So MOVE! Oh, and this applies for stopping at the TOP of the escalator when people are behind you. Don’t be stupid. MOVE away from the area to avoid impeding traffic. Don’t be stupid…

Just some of the observations today.
