The Democratic Candidates: an African-American, a woman, and John?

January 21st, 2008

Yes, that’s right. That line came from Barack Obama tonight at the CNN debate. At the second half of the debate, it’s become a little more cordial (with the exception of a jab back at John Edwards by Obama). There’s been a lot of joking and comedy between the candidates and how does it begin? Well with CNN pundit Wolf Blitzer bringing up race and gender. Wow…I can’t believe that we’re back here. Why are we STILL on race? Shouldn’t this whole thing be about something like about politics? You know…healthcare, social security, the environment, or maybe homeland security?

So this second half is very cordial and Barack even complimented Bill Clinton about his work for the African American community. I think he’s even mentioned at least twice how this is a historical occasion with an African American, a woman, and…uh…John for a chance to go for the White House. Yeah, it’s hard to make John part of that “historic” statement. So leave it to Hillary to say “Son of the South”. Very peaceful second half. But it seems to be turning into a panel discussion? Is that just me?

Obama is beginning to remind me of Bush Part II. His arrogance is very unbecoming. Over the last few weeks, the timing and hard hitting responses to everything Hillary Clinton succeeds at, seems to have an under current of machismo. You know — the mentality some men have that if they hit a woman hard enough, she will learn to stay down. He doesn’t seem to just want to point out differences between the campaigns, he almosts needs to try to one down her.
The thing that did it for me, was when he dismissively spoke to John Edwards when he made his offer to “send all his stuff from his website so John Edwards would know what he was all about.” I had the same reaction that John Edwards did in the debate. Why would Obama presume to think John Edwards would be so interested in Obama’s ideas? Well of course Obama would think everyone is interested in his platform. Obama probably wonders why John Edwards doesn’t know John is out of the race? Obama thinks John is out of the race, and his statement to John Edwards implied it.
We have had a president who thinks that he sits at the right hand of God and look where we are. Today, at work (financial firm), I felt fear about the US economy that I have never felt before when the Dow dropped almost 400 pts. It was only 9:06 a.m.
Our country is in such a mess because the media regurgitated every thing the republicans said without question over the last 8 years. The majority did not just follow Bush and the republicans over a cliff without the help of the media.
Now the media has a new ’savior’ to present to the public, OMBAMA. We don’t need a ’savior’. We need a solid good man or woman that truly cares about this country and not one that is so taken with himself, he can no longer interact with others as if he has some connection to reality. After the way Obama talked to Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and about Bill Clinton — I would never vote for him even if he won the nomination.
