Have you seen this show? “Phenomenon” is a reality game show like The Apprentice or American Idol where the “judges” Yuri Gellar and Chris Angel offer their critiques on various performers on who is the greatest mentalist and therefore can be dubbed the “Phenomenon”. The series premiere was tonight and I saw bits and pieces of it. Honestly I forgot it was on, but I was also trying to do a few things at once and was slightly preoccupied. Nevertheless, the parts that I saw were rather drab and boring. Plus I did see the recap at the end and none of the acts really stood out.
There was one full act that I did see and I could swear that it was EXACTLY what David Copperfield did when I saw him at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. WTF? Not only that, they only had 1 hour for the series premiere and showed only 4 out of 10 performers? What was really offsetting was that Yuri Gellar had a “mental” challenge that he presented the audience - which seemed like the thing you would see during the commercial breaks of “Deal or No Deal” where you guessed the lucky case and won money. Same concept except you don’t guess the right card or person or whatnot. You simply vote for what Yuri will guess or something like that and if you are in the winning set and selected (apparently) by random, you win like $10,000. Uh…great…
So overall did I like the show? No…I’m amazed that NBC put THAT much hype into this show, but it didn’t seem to catch on. I’d rather pay $90 and go see David Copperfield again. Now, I might be wrong, but I’ll need to wait until next week to see what the other contestants have to say. Maybe their acts won’t suck.

It’s Homecoming weekend for the University of Hawaii and they’re playing on Saturday at Aloha Stadium a team from New Mexico State. As usual, Hawaii is throwing a homecoming celebration with a downtown block party along with other festive events. Never really went to any of them, but chances are that there’s a lot of booze floating around.
So I checked the line for the game and Hawaii is heavily favored to win with a spread of 28 points. Should be an interesting game with Hawaii being undefeated and aching to make it to the top eschalon of the BCS standings. Too bad that I won’t be able to watch it from all the way over here…but then again, I think I can listen to it over the Internet on ESPN 1420 Radio. Woohoo! Score! Let’s Go Bows!

Prominent civil rights leaders called for a march on Washington, DC on Nov. 2 and an economic boycott…meaning that they are asking the public not to spend money AT ALL on November 2. Why? Because apparently by having the entire United States not buying anything will have a result with the Justice Department and force them to act quickly to prosecute hate crimes. Wait, that doesn’t make sense and won’t have the right impact. The major effect it would have is that the US economy could potentially be influenced and the Justice Department wouldn’t necessarily care. Sure, there are plenty of hate crimes that are improperly prosecuted and there are many that are not even investigated when they should be. But should we really resort to an economic boycott of our own goods and services just to put the point across that the Justice Department should listen to us?
If we wanted to have an economic boycott that would affect someone, wouldn’t it be the Department of Commerce or some big industrial company like Wal-Mart?

So yesterday I was walking to SoHo down on 9th and D street and there was a union protesting work being done on a building - something about fair wages or something…never really caught the whole background of the strike, but they’ve been doing it for about a year now at most, but at least for a few months.
Anyways, I’m at work on 7th and Eye Street and lo’ and behold while walking past a window I hear people shouting or chanting…something different than usual. I poke my head right up to the window and there they are! I see protesters picketing a building adjacent to our office. Of course, right next to our building will be a Commerce Bank and that’s what they’re opposed to…well actually, NOT the bank, but the fact that they’re apparently being given unfair wages? Again, I never really caught the gist of what was going on. But yes, today is filled with hearing them chant their slogans and whatnot.
It’s a great day to be in DC.

So I finally got around to looking at all the video that I took through my small rinky-dink Fuji FinePix point & shoot camera I bought a few months back and just started to upload them onto YouTube. I figured since I took the video, I might as well do something with ‘em, right? Click here to view my videos…
